Food For Thought

Spirulina is a blue-green algae, considered to be the most complete food source. It contains over 100 nutrients and all the essential amino acids, making it a complete protein. Spirulina is excellent for weight loss since it suppresses the appetite and contains no carbohydrates or sugars. It boosts energy levels, helps increase endurance, and builds muscle. In addition, it improves recovery from surgery, illness, and chemotherapy. Spirulina helps support the function of the liver, kidneys, and heart.

Spirulina powder can be added to smoothies or blended with water or juice. It provides a quick energy boost between meals. Spirulina tablets and capsules are also available.

Spirulina should NOT be taken by people with hyperparathyroidism or allergies to seafood or seaweed. It should not be taken when experiencing high fever. If you are taking any medications, check with your pharmacist or physician for any known reactions.

Smoothies To-Go!! What's better than an ice cold smoothie on a hot summer day? Not much! Keep your smoothies and slushies at the perfect temperature with our insulated Bento Lunch Jar. When you sit down for picnics this summer, you'll be happy you did!

You can start growing seeds in a planter pot made from a newspaper and create a sundial out of a garden. HGTV has an online Family Gardening Club with a number of project ideas to help get the kids involved in the garden. Every month they add another easy to follow project. The project for June is a Wind Chime made from terra-cotta pots.
